Publications document art, record exhibitions, generate critical discourse and disseminate ideas worldwide. They are also provocative and beautiful objects in their own right. Over the course of a day we look at how to produce and publish a range of printed art catalogues, comparing the possibilities of the DIY aesthetic to the institutional.

About the course leaders

Francesca Vinter 

Francesca Vinter has worked in publishing for over ten years and is currently Publications Manager at Whitechapel Gallery. From 2006 – 2013 she looked after sales, rights and co-editions for Tate Publishing and the Tate galleries, and has also worked for Phaidon Press and Prestel.


Candy Stobbs

Candy Stobbs has worked in the Exhibitions Department of the Whitechapel Gallery since 2000. She has organised and co-ordinated numerous single artist and group exhibitions with accompanying major publications including Gillian Wearing (2012); Mel Bochner (2012); Adventures of the Black Square: Abstract Art and Society (2015); Imperfect Chronology: Arab Art from the Modern to the Contemporary (2015) and most recently William Kentridge Thick Time (2016).
