‘International in its scope and reputation… of all London’s galleries, it remains the one that is truly of the people.’
The Financial Times

The Whitechapel Gallery Project will build on partnerships with a local and global network of museums, galleries, educational organisations and communities.

In addition to Whitechapel Gallery's touring exhibitions, the Collections and Archive Galleries will build on relationships with regional local authority museums and National and International Collections ranging from Manchester City Art Gallery to MoMA, from the British Council to the Getty.

The expanded Whitechapel Gallery will offer an MA course in Curating with London Metropolitan University. Joining forces with London’s most diverse university, the Gallery will nurture young arts professionals from a variety of backgrounds.

The project is one of a number of new cultural initiatives emerging in East London and developing in dialogue with each other. The Gallery will work on public arts schemes with Vital Arts at the refurbished London Hospital; and programme joint projects with the Rich Mix cultural centre.

The Gallery works with the Mayor of London on cultural campaigns such as East, a six-day festival that celebrated the uniquely rich creative mix of east London for March 2009, and the Story of London, a festival celebrating London's past, present and future in June 2009.

The Gallery also organises Time Out First Thursdays, whereby on the first Thursday of every month the galleries and museums of east London open their doors late for a chance to see amazing art, culture and events after hours. With other 100 galleries and museums open until 9pm on First Thursdays, there will always be something free and exciting to see. Find out more here.
