Head Chef Maria Elia wins London Restaurant Festival Award
Whitechapel Gallery Dining Room Head Chef Maria Elia's menu for the London Restaurant Festival certainly hit the right note with the judges as it was declared winning three course dinner for £25 beating off competition from well over 500 hundred restaurants in London.
Maria's menu showcased the best of London’s East End favourites. She included the ‘London Particular’ - a split pea and ham soup (given its name by Charles Dickens in Bleak House, referring to the brown ‘fog’ omitted from the factories around London – a ‘pea souper’) and Potted Salt Beef for starters.
For mains diners enjoyed Ginger Beer Battered Pollock, Whitechapel Faggots and Textures of Curried Vegetables – an homage to Brick Lane. The selection of desserts included Sticky Apple Toffee Pudding and Treacle Tart.
