The Whitechapel Gallery Children’s Film Library offers families in east London an alternative to mainstream, commercial cinema, with a range of exciting and enjoyable artists’ short films.

Through a series of workshops at the Whitechapel Gallery, local children from Osmani Primary School took on the role of ‘the critic’.  They watched, reviewed and selected the artists’ films in collaboration with artist/film maker Emma Savage assisted by Melany Rose, creating a series of DVD’s.

All the films in this set of five DVD’s were chosen by children, for children, suggesting a unique and playful approach to alternative cinema. The DVD series - covers are designed by children and feature the following films:

Disk One: Boat and other films

Disk Two: Three legged and other films

Disk Three: Frances and other films

Disk Four: Rabbit and other films

Disk Five: Careful and other films

The Children’s Film Library series is free to borrow from the Idea Store Whitechapel High Street, Tower Hamlets. Families are encouraged to send feedback and personal reviews of the chosen films.
