Book a visit (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during term-time) and a brief introduction to the Gallery and the resources on offer for your school group. Learning resources, Conversations and Actions, created by artists, are available to download online.

Guidelines for Your Visit

  • All groups must book in advance. To make a booking, please contact the Education Administrator on 020 7522 7894 or email education@whitechapelgallery.org.
  • For a lunch slot in the Creative Studio and a place to store coats and bags, please book well in advance and ask when booking. To secure this space, it is recommended you book your visit at least a month in advance.
  • Please inform us when making a booking of any special requirements you may require.
  • To confirm your booking we will send you Guidelines and a Health and Safety Statement. Please fully brief all responsible adults and visiting students and ensure that guidelines are observed throughout your visit. You will need to sign that you have read and understood these guidelines on your arrival at the Information Desk.

Supervision

  • Adult supervision is required at all times - accompanying adults are always responsible for students. Please meet the following minimum adult to student ratios: Age under 5 1:5, Age 6-11 1:10, Age 12-16 1:15, Age over 16 1:20.

Group Sizes

  • A maximum of one class (approx. 30 pupils) can be allowed on any day.
  • To avoid overcrowding there is a limit on the number of group visits per day to the Gallery.
  • Groups may be asked to split into smaller groups when entering certain exhibitions.

Preliminary Visit

  • We strongly advise teachers to make a preliminary planning visit to check that the content of the rooms is appropriate and to make their own risk assessment.
