Edge of the Real - A Painting Show

To complement Raoul De Keyser the Whitechapel showcases the work of a younger generation of artists working in Britain today. They draw on their immediate surroundings – a suburban estate, a photo from a discarded newspaper, an empty room; or on the vocabularies of painting itself – to create powerful formal compositions of colour and line. Deploying materials ranging from thread to humbrol enamel paint, these virtuosos of technique take abstraction into the realms of poetry and psychic drama.
