Duchamp & Sons x Ian Giles

The youth forum collaborated with artist Ian Giles to create a performative response to the layers and rhythms within the Mary Heilmann: Looking at Pictures (8 June – 21 August 2016) exhibition.

Through a series of workshops in July, Giles shared his interest in abstracting language through layering, repetition and reordering, and explored the sculptural potential of human relations with the group.

Through play and construction, the piece IsToAsIsTo  attempted to present a kind of linguistic alchemy, playing with language in order to offer new meanings, connections and rhythms. It functioned as an expanded portrait of the group, drawing together personal biographies within one single tangled hive of spoken word and energy.
