2016: Catherine Yass and Central Foundation Girls School

  • Catherine Yass and Central Foundation Girls School Masterclass at Whitechapel Galelry

Masterclass
Catherine Yass  and Central Foundation Girls School, Tower Hamlets, Year 10 and 11

Students worked with artist Catherine Yass, to explore photographic histories. Informed by the exhibitions programme at the Whitechapel Gallery, Catherine’s work and exploring examples from daguerreotypes to Instagram, students examined the ‘slippryness’ of photography as a commercial and artistic currency.

Students gained insight into creative industries, learnt and subverted technical photography skills to create new photographic works.

Engaging delivery that captivated students and kept them focused all day. A great range of activities that gave students a chance to work as a group as well as on their own. Teacher, Central Foundation Girls School

I really liked taking the photographs and exploring the different parts of the gallery because it was exciting, interesting and challenging. I learnt a lot about different artists that I didn’t know. Umana, Central Foundation Girls School
