Bob-A-Job Writers Scheme

+ Share

The Bob-a-Job Writers’ Scheme has been set up as part of the Writer in Residence programme.  Its intention is to provide independent art writers with much-needed work and to furnish professionals with access to excellent writing at reasonable rates. The database of writers is accessible to companies and individuals who have signed up as members. There is a small, one-off administration charge of £10 for this.

There are many different types of writing assignments, which require varying levels of research, prior knowledge and creative or intellectual application, and this should be reflected in the fee negotiated. The following rates are for guidance only. Generally speaking, writing is paid by the word, editing and proofing by the hour.

Writing rates

Copy written from notes or discussion with client – 25p a word
Copy written from primary research – 35p a word
i.e.: a funding application of 1500 words written from a bullet-point skeleton would cost £375; a 300-word press release written from a studio visit with the artist would cost £105.

Editing rates
Minimum hourly rates, suggested by The Society for Editors and Proofreaders:

Proofreading – £19.25
Copy-editing – £20.75
On-screen copy-editing – £22.50
Substantial editing and rewriting – £26.00
