Alexander Tucker & Decomposed Orchestra + Timothy Blackman

Friday 15 January, 2010

Alexander Tucker combines complex song structure, drones, layered vocals and improvisation to evoke eerie landscapes and fragile emotions. His solo work reflects the foundations of English folk music, intimate Americana and even world music.

Tucker’s uses un-tuned guitars, tape loops, mini disc player and fx pedals to investigate improvisation. His solo self-titled album recorded in early 2000 was picked up by Tom Greenwood of Jackie-O-Motherfucker and released on his U-Sound Archives label. Tucker has also collaborated with visual artists such as Phil Coy and Spartacus Chetwynd.

"Tucker sounds like he’s following a tradition that has long been neglected, focusing not on ageless songs and ideas but on ageless feelings captured through his droning miasma of acoustic guitar and mandolin." - Solo Recordings

Timothy Blackman is a singer-song writer from Wellington City, New Zealand. His live performances have been described as “engaging and intense” - The Lumiere Reader.

Tim’s first release,'Giraffes, Wharves and Sinking Sand', developed over a two-week reclusive period in Dunedin and is described as “scratchy acoustic brilliance” by salient. His second album,’ Modern Sprawl’ released in 2008, was inspired by the sprawling suburbs of Auckland City.

He has been invited to play at the Bnet Live to Airs as well as performing on Dunedin’s own Channel 9 as well as performing throughout Europe with acts, including The Mountain Goats (4AD), Scout Niblett (Drag City) and Sophia Knapp (of Lights/Drag City).
