Artist Information
Born in Bombay in 1954, Anish Kapoor moved to Britain in the 1970s. One of the most influential sculptors of his generation, Kapoor's use of materials ranges from translucent resin to absorbent pigments, the radiant glow of alabaster to the fluid reflections of stainless steel and water. Through this interplay between form and light, Kapoor aspires to evoke sublime experiences, which address primal physical and psychological states.
Kapoor was awarded the Turner Prize in 1991 and presented a major installation in Tate Modern's Turbine Hall in 2002. His work is held in numerous private and public collections, including Tate, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Reina Sofia in Madrid and the Stedlijk Museum in Amsterdam.
