Artist Information
American artist Jenny Holzer is best known for her provocative and arresting text, which she disseminates through a variety of different medias, from electronic signs and digital projections to street posters and stickers. Holzer favours means of expressing her ideas in public spaces, where her work both blends in with and challenges its landscape.
Holzer was the first woman to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale in 1990, where she was awarded the Golden Lion. Her work is featured in permanent installations at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice and the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, Spain. Major exhibitions of Holzer’s work have included the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin; the ICA, London; the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
