Luke Dowd's work references issues of value and commodity, from large paintings of gem-stones to graphic images of prized Koi Carp. The low-tech medium of spray paint and screen printing are employed to question the value of painting itself.

This limited edition has been created exclusively for the Whitechapel Gallery on the opening of the tri-annual East End Academy exhibition, 2009.

Artist Information

Born in New York, Luke Dowd studied painting at Sarah Lawrence College before receiving a Masters from Chelsea College of Art, London in 2002 . He has had solo shows in New York, Chicago, Frankfurt, Athens and the UK.
