Artist Information

German artist Albert Oehlen studied with Sigmar Polke in the 1970s and came to prominence in the early 1980s, alongside Martin Kippenberger, as part of a generation of artists who actively sought to reject the dominant cultural values of the time.  He embraced painting when conceptual art had completely discarded the medium and throughout his career his work has centred on a singular investigation of the practice of painting.
