Artist Information

The American painter Alex Katz began his career in New York in the 1950s, alongside the Abstract Expressionist movement.  Best known for his figurative images of women and small groups rendered in a flattened style and marked by a simplified line, Katz has always worked independently of the contemporary leading movements and adhered to his own distinct style.

Katz’s work is included in many major private and public collections, including Tate, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Nationalgalerie in Berlin and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
