Artist Information

One of the most influential artists of his generation, Paul McCarthy creates powerful works in performance, sculpture, photography, film, drawing, collage and installation. Influenced by Allan Kaprow and Yves Klein, McCarthy has used his own body as the raw material to explore masculinity and his works are often violently, sexually and politically charged to comment on the darker elements of Western society.  

Paul McCarthy is one of  America’s foremost contemporary artists.  He has exhibitedly internationally for three decades and major retrospectives of his work have included the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; The Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven and Tate Modern.
