This new, comprehensive monograph accompanies the retrospective of the internationally renowned photographic artist Thomas Struth. The exhibition has toured to Zürich and Düsseldorf and will take place at the Whitechapel Gallery from 6 July 2011 – 16 September 2011before travelling to Porto.

Featuring 330 images, the book provides a broad and representative overview of the Düsseldorf based photographer’s work over the last 30 years. Along with highlights of his artistic oeuvre – such as the family portraits, museum images and natural paradises – both the exhibition and the book include recent, previously unknown images of laboratories and scientific equipment, exploring large research institutions and high-tech plants.

The new monograph includes essays by Armin Zweite, Anette Kruszynski, James Lingwood, Ruth HaCohen and Yaron Ezrahi. In addition Tobia Bezzola and James Lingwood present the artist’s various work groups in an extended chronology which is based on interviews with Thomas Struth. The publication also features a comprehensive, illustrated biography of the artist.
