Freeze Puppy & Rocketnumbernine

Friday 29 January, 2010

Tom Wilson also known as Freeze Puppy presents his home-produced pop music with a range of musical influences, from British guitar pop to Zimbabwean mbira players.

Tom Wilson is an astonishing songsmith and performer, his compositions blend sumptuous instrumentation, basic midi drum samples and classic pop hooks skewed by irregular meters. His new album 'Animation' is the product of a three year project that offers the kind of outsider pop moments that John Peel would have cherished.

The two brothers that form Rocketnumbernine have been improvising for the past eight years as well as playing in other bands such as Rothko and The Sleeping Years. Their influences are rooted in jazz and electronic music, however there sound is not quite jazz and not quite electronics but rather rhythmic landscapes where the listener encounters metallic animal voices, stretching their influences into something that is abstract and very raw.

‘Iron bullfrogs do a mating call, occasional golden owls and nightingales chime in and slink back into the darkness, all while a mermaid whimsically plonks on her glockenspiel. You go places with this music.’
