Screenings and discussions that offer a journey into the mind and masterpieces of Samuel Beckett, whose work has had a profound influence on Gerard Byrne. Participants include artists Gerard Byrne and Phil Coy, actress Lisa Dwan, Guardian literary critic Nicholas Lezard, Curator Kirsty Ogg, Goldsmiths Senior Lecturer Derval Tubridy and writer and curator Judith Wilkinson. A limited number of the exhibition catalogues and posters signed by Gerard Byrne will be available to purchase from the Bookshop exclusively on the night. Schedule Auditorium 7-7.35pm: Beckett and Byrne: Discussion with Gerard Byrne, Judith Wilkinson and Kirsty Ogg 7.35-7.55pm: Screening: Eh Joe (1965/66 ) 20 mins. dir. Alan Gibson. Starring Jack Macgowran and Sian Phillips. Written specially for television by Beckett, this play features only one visible character, Joe, who speaks not a single word throughout the play, and the voice of an unseen woman whom Joe once loved. 7.55-8.30pm: Screening of Lisa Dwan performing Samuel Beckett's 1972 monologue Not I followed by Dwan in conversation with Nicholas Lezard. Lisa Dwan has inherited this remarkably challenging text - one of the most gruelling solo pieces in theatre - directly from Billie Whitelaw, the great actress, and one of Beckett's favourite performers, whose legendary rendering of this iconic work premiered 40 years ago in 1973.
