The Whitechapel Gallery originates many of its acclaimed exhibitions, which travel to prestigious institutions worldwide.  The Gallery’s exhibitions are fixtures in the arts calendar and attract great public attention and garner considerable international media coverage.

The Whitechapel was the first public gallery in the UK to feature the work of David Hockney, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg and Mark Rothko.  Important exhibitions in recent years include Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Lucian Freud, Nan Goldin, Gary Hume, Jeff Wall, and Mark Wallinger, and historic exhibitions such as Faces in the Crowd and Back to Black.
