For five years the Whitechapel Gallery has partnered with Swarovski and the Swarovski Foundation to create spectacular events that support the Gallery’s education and community programme.
Launched in 2014, the Art Icon award, supported by Swarovski, celebrates the work of an artist who has made a profound contribution to a particular medium, influencing their own and subsequent generations of artists. It is presented at the Whitechapel Gallery’s annual gala dinner hosted by Iwona Blazwick OBE (Director, Whitechapel Gallery) and Nadja Swarovski (Member of the Swarovski Executive Board).
Whitechapel Gallery Art Icon 2017 with Swarovski takes place on 25 January 2017, honouring Peter Doig and featuring a live auction of works donated by leading contemporary artists. All funds raised contribute to the Gallery’s work with thousands of children and young people.

Over the past 120 years, Swarovski has established a long history of fostering culture and creativity. Today, now run by the fifth generation of family members, it continues this endeavour in three ways: through collaborations with visionary designers, which celebrate imagination, innovation and the importance of art in the world; by partnering with cultural institutions to support their creative projects; and with support for emerging designers and scholarship in design to help nurture the next generation of talent. Swarovski is proud to partner with Whitechapel Gallery, as it shares Swarovski’s aim to champion creativity, recognise inspirational talent and celebrate the power of art to transform lives.
