Lift access

Our entrance is at street level and all the galleries are wheelchair accessible. All levels are lift-accessible and there are two lifts serving different parts of the building:

  • Lift 1 serves Galleries 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9*
  • Lift 2 is a staff-operated lift with access to the Cafe/Bar and to Gallery 3; please ask any member of staff for assistance.


Borrowing wheelchairs, walkers and seating

Wheelchairs and walkers are available on request at the Information Desk.

Portable folding chairs are available from the Cloakroom Desk. 

Guide dogs

Guide dogs, hearing and registered assistance dogs are welcome. Staff can provide a bowl of water. If you want to bring your guide or hearing dog to an event in the Zilkha Auditorium, please call 020 7522 7888 in advance to reserve a seat next to the aisle.

Toilets and baby care facilities

Accessible toilets and baby changing facilities are available on the ground and basement levels.

Large print information

Large print information about exhibitions, events and facilities can be collected from the Information Desk. Large print information is currently available for the following:

British sign language (BSL) and hearing induction loops

The Zilkha Auditorium, Study Studio and Creative Studios are equipped with induction loops. 

First Thursday talks are BSL interpreted and speakers giving talks in the galleries wear portable induction loops.  There are 4 portable receivers, which can be borrowed from the Information Desk.

Deaf Messaging Service (DMS)

The gallery uses the DMS to alert users by text message when the fire alarm sounds. Users who wish the system should text WGDMS to 07797870999. To leave the system, please text STOP to the same number.

Audio Description

Picture description sessions are held once a  month at 11.30am for blind and partially sighted visitors. These free sessions explore a key piece of work from the main exhibition using detailed description and raised images. Parking

Free parking for Blue Badge holders is available at the top of Osborn Street in the pay and display booths for an unlimited period.

One space directly outside the gallery in the loading bay is available on a first come-first serve basis (max stay 3hrs).
