For over a century the Whitechapel Gallery has premiered world-class artists from modern masters such as Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Frida Kahlo to contemporaries such as Sophie Calle, Lucian Freud, Gilbert & George and Mark Wallinger.
The Whitechapel Gallery contains nine beautiful exhibition spaces, an auditorium, as well as artist commissions, collection displays, historic archives, education resources, inspiring art courses, dining room and bookshop, and the newly expanded Gallery is open all year round, so there is always something free to see.
The Duty Manager plays an essential part in the day to day running of the Gallery, as well as supporting our wonderful artistic program. The Duty Manager is responsible for the day to day presentation of the Gallery; including all public-facing areas as well as back of house areas. This means implementing procedures relating to deliveries, visitor access, signage and security, as well as being the first point of contact for the Gallery Assistant and Visitor Services Teams, and providing requirements for internal and external Gallery activities. The Duty Manager is also responsible for the opening and closing of the gallery; which means securing the gallery and its contents, operating the alarm system, and adhering to strict security protocols.
If you have worked in a public building, have excellent technical skills and can communicate with people from many different backgrounds you could join our team of Duty Managers.
