Emotional Mapping is a seven-step participatory mapping process developed by RESOLVE Collective that surfaces connections, experiences and emotional responses to a place. A cornerstone in RESOLVE’s practice, Emotional Mapping invites participants to annotate Ordnance Survey maps in stages: first, identifying their neighbourhoods and physical markers; then, considering non-tangible markers such as tastes, smells and memories; and finally, adding feelings and emotional responses to places on the map.
For Angel Alley, RESOLVE held mapping sessions with participants from Cardboard Citizens, Freedom Press and Whitechapel Gallery. The resulting maps form a resource for understanding the many distinctive ways participants perceive and experience the Alley.
