Publications document works of art, record exhibitions, generate critical discourse and disseminate art and ideas worldwide. They can also be beautiful objects in their own right. This step by step session led by Francesca Vinter and Emma Woodiwiss is a guide to every aspect of book publication from commissioning designers and authors to the world of distribution. Sessions will cover:

• The place of the book
• Planning a publication: processes and considerations
• Image copyright
• Production and Print
• Logistics of book sales and distribution

10am – 5pm
Lunch and refreshments provided

The Art Fund supports this ‘How to: Inside the Gallery’ series by offering a number of fully funded places per course for curators and museum and gallery professionals. The deadline is 18 December 2015, to apply, head to the Art Fund Website.

Francesca Vinter

Francesca Vinter has worked in publishing for over ten years and is currently Publications Manager at Whitechapel Gallery. From 2006 – 2013 she looked after sales, rights and co-editions for Tate Publishing and the Tate galleries, and has also worked for Phaidon Press and Prestel.

Emma Woodiwiss

Emma Woodiwiss trained at the London College of Printing (now LCC) in 1999. She has extensive experience of producing exhibition catalogues and reproducing artwork for print, most notably for Tate Britain and Tate Modern.
