Project (Sep 2025 – March 2026)

Duchamp & Sons collaborated with artist and filmmaker Maz Murray to develop a new film work and installation which took over Whitechapel Gallery’s Assembly Room space in February 2026.

Developed over a five-month period of playful experimentation, conversation, and collective snacking, the film work draws from histories of cinema, visual storytelling and DIY film techniques. During their regular Duchamp & Sons sessions the group explored matte painting, sequencing still images, improv, lighting, set and prop making to together find a visual language to underscore their new work.

Through a satirical lens the resulting film subverts tropes about artists in the context of the housing crisis, restrictions on protest, and an increasingly right leaning media. Wacky news reports, miniature sets and audio experiments combine to explore the difficulties facing young artists today.

The film was celebrated with a launch event programmed and hosted by Duchamp & Sons, which featured making and performance activities alongside a panel discussion with some current D&S member
