OITIJ-JO Collective – a Bengali arts and heritage organisation based in East London – present TUFAN. This exhibition and live programme draw inspiration from the Bangla word for storm, symbolising sudden change, powerful energy, disruption, and the possibility of renewal. Rather than focusing only on the spectacle of the storm, the programme explores TUFAN as a process – a movement from turbulence to transformation, from rupture to regeneration, reflecting on how change often happens gradually in the aftermath of upheaval.

In collaboration with SHALA_Neighbourhood Art Space, Dhaka, TUFAN is presenting a total of twenty short films and video arts from a diverse range of artists and filmmakers from Bangladesh under two thematic sections.

The Process of Being Womxn consists of fifteen films which focus on narratives focusing on womxn’s energy, disruption and renewal. Seven of these will be screened at Whitechapel Gallery and the rest of them at the OITIJ-JO Art Space.

Labour, Migration and Home consists of five films focusing on garment workers in Bangladesh, labour migrants abroad and the unending chain of labor of many generations of the tea plantation workers in Bangladesh, and reflections of the Britain’s influence on industry in the past as well as formations and transformations of home.
