Alba is a women-led, independent café based within Whitechapel Gallery, serving up specialty coffee, seasonal lunches and a delectable selection of bakes – all made in house.
Ethics are at the heart of everything we do here at Alba: we’re proud to pay our staff above London Living Wage, to support local initiatives across East London, and to source only the highest quality produce. We use Cacklebean eggs from the Cotswolds, Estate Dairy milk and yoghurt from Norfolk and fresh vegetables from Borough Market’s Ted’s Veg. Our coffee is roasted and delivered by bike by Climpson & Sons in East London, and our teas come from Nemi, a London-based social enterprise that supports and empowers refugees.
From 5 – 9pm every Thursday evening and for our pop-up events, we have a curated menu of spritzes, low-intervention and natural wines, and small bites to snack on. There’s no need to book, just pop in.
About Alba
Alongside running the café day to day, we also host wine tastings and coffee cuppings, tarot evenings, drawing workshops, bakery pop-ups, literary supper clubs and much more. We also provide a range of corporate catering packages, both within the gallery spaces and to nearby businesses.
