29 January – 31 March 2019

Throughout 2019 the Artists’ Film International global consortium of partners selects moving image works on the theme of gender.

Mwangi Hutter is Ingrid Mwangi (b. 1975, Kenya) and Robert Hutter (b. 1970, Germany). In Eastleigh Crossing, (2009) filmed in the flooded streets of a part of Nairobi inhabited by Somalian refugees, a crowd of spectators encounter a performance or ‘Guerilla Action’ that breaks public social codes.

The Ambassadors Wife (2018) by Theresa Traore Dahlberg (b. 1983, Sweden) explores power structures, post-colonialism, feminism and class as it follows the daily routine of a diplomat’s wife confined by social conventions to the French Ambassador’s residence in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Mwangi Hutter is selected by Neuer Berliner Kunstverein; Theresa Traore Dahlberg by Bonniers Konsthall.
