The Stories Uncovered project explored London’s heritage through the eyes of young people. Drawing on the Imprint 93 (19 March – 25 September) exhibition, Duchamp & Sons investigated what ‘archiving’ means in the 21st century.
The group invited artist Lucy Steggals to collaborate with them in devising a workshop which explores how we gather information on places, through mapping and colour.
They subsequently devised a colour walk in the East End and invited other young people to record their thoughts, feelings and experiences of the colour yellow on social media using the hashtag #yellowpagesds. The digital response was transformed into a physical archive of photographs, typewritten texts, drawings and collages back at the Gallery, and later into a zine.
Stories Uncovered is part of Archives and Access, led by Tate and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. In collaboration with Black Cultural Archives, Tate Collective, South London Gallery, 198, Octavia Foundation and Whitechapel Gallery.
