This event takes place in our auditorium, with cushioned seats that have backs.
Transport
– To the best of our knowledge, there are no planned disruptions to local transport on the date of the event.
– Our nearest train station – Aldgate East Underground (1 min walk) is not wheelchair accessible. The closest wheelchair accessible stations are Whitechapel (15 min walk), Shoreditch High Street (15 min walk) or Liverpool Street (15 min walk).
– Free parking for Blue Badge holders is available at the top of Osborn Street in the pay and display booths for an unlimited period. Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis.

At the centre of Zadie Xa’s new Whitechapel commission House Gods, Animal Guides and Five Ways 2 Forgiveness lies the power of ritual and mythmaking.
In this special evening conversation, acclaimed writers Sarah Shin and Nisha Ramayya discuss the role of magic, ritual and power in their own writing and publishing practices. Shin and Ramayya will explore psychocosmology – the cocreation of reality by human consciousness and the other-than-human universe – through the lens of Lila (divine play), games and rituals.
There will also be a chance for audience questions and contributions to the discussion.
This event is part of our public programme related to Zadie Xa: House Gods, Animal Guides and Five Ways 2 Forgiveness.
Sarah Shin is a writer, publisher and curator whose work includes making books, texts, gardens, games, scents, spaces and practices. She co-founded Ignota, a creative publishing and curatorial house exploring consciousness, technology and healing, and Silver Press, the feminist publisher. She is also the founder of New Suns, a curation and storytelling project, which began as a literary festival at the Barbican.
Nisha Ramayya grew up in Glasgow and now lives in London. Her poetry collection States of the Body Produced by Love (2019) is published by Ignota Books. Recent projects and publications include: poems in Ludd Gang; a collaboration with sonic dramaturg MJ Harding performed at Wysing Polyphonic 2021: Under Ether (reviewed in Tank); a sequence of poems reflecting on Scotland’s colonial histories in CCA Annex; and an essay-poem in response to the work of mathematician Fernando Zalamea in audiograft.
