Unfolding in the Common Rooms, we will spend an afternoon making, talking and reflecting at the close of our Walking, Power, and Inclusion series.
The afternoon will start as a drop-in from 2-5pm, and there will be a chaired panel discussion between project members from 5-6pm.
Drop-in activities will include making, writing and listening, with material for visitors to explore throughout the space.
Discussion will be open and flowing between artists, researchers and creative practitioners and visitors, everyone’s views and thoughts are welcome regardless of experience. We will reflect on topics such as walking, the city, commons, psychology, public space, community, belonging, conviviality and wherever else the path of conversation leads us.
We will be broadcasting audio recordings captured from the Walking, Power and Inclusion event series throughout the afternoon, and the discussion will be recorded for later broadcasting on the Whitechapel Radio and archiving purposes.
There will be seating provided in the space with a relaxed atmosphere, as well as opportunities to engage with Alisa Oleva and Debbie Kent’s Demolition Project in the adjacent room.

Panel Discussion
A moderated panel bringing together artists, curators and researchers from the Walking! Power! Inclusion programme to reflect on walking, public space and belonging, closing the series in conversation with the audience.
Walking! Power! Inclusion! is multi-disciplinary team of artists, curators and researchers brought together by the Centre for Public Engagement Practice in Arts and Humanities, to co-design and deliver inclusive public engagement. This collaborative project explores ideas of power, inclusion and conviviality, and our ability to live together despite difference. For the Backyard Biennial, Walking! Power! Inclusion! has programmed a series of walks and workshops that invite visitors, local residents, and diasporic communities to democratise storytelling in the city; confront the line between private and public space; use photography to shift narratives; and explore Whitechapel with curiosity, creativity and criticality. Project members include Manal Massahla, Saira Niazi, Alisa Oleva, Ella Parry-Davies, Lorna Powell, Clare Qualmann, and Morag Rose.
