The Whitechapel Gallery presents a new archive display exploring the first decade of Acme Studios, the pioneering artists’ initiative which, since 1972, has played an important role in establishing east London as a centre for the visual arts.

Coinciding with The Spirit of Utopia, an exhibition which looks at the role art can play in offering alternative ways of configuring society, this season’s films are based on social and collaborative projects.

The Whitechapel Gallery presents a major exhibition of Romanian-born artists Gert and Uwe Tobias. The artists’ collaborative woodcuts, detailed collages, wall paintings and new ceramic sculptures will be part of a site specific installation for the Gallery.
Joy Gregory with Whitechapel Gallery has won the Freelands Award 2023. This award enables organisations to present an exhibition by a mid-career female-identifying artist who may not yet have received the acclaim or public recognition that her work deserves.
Leading contemporary artists donate works for charitable Art Icon auction in support of Whitechapel Gallery’s education and community programmes.
Whitechapel Gallery is delighted to announce Chloe Carroll as the winner of the 2020 NEON Curatorial Award, the announcement of which has been postponed for two years owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
