15-19, from East London and enjoy making art with others?
Get involved this summer in this year’s Contemporary Art Week led by East London based artist Maz Murray, exploring performance and play. You can expect a week filled with experiments with storytelling, stagecraft, live art making and film, rooted in humour and surrealism. Together, we’ll play with subverting existing story archetypes and testing out different practical effects and staging, to create collaborative live performances and film works.
This four day programme offers a relaxed and welcoming space for collaborating with others, deep diving into Maz’s artistic practice, and finding out more about different approaches to contemporary art making.
To take part apply by 10am Monday 28 July.
Our annual Contemporary Art Week is open to young people aged 15-19, with priority given to those based in East London and those from backgrounds currently underrepresented in the arts. No previous art experience is necessary.
Spaces are limited and will be allocated throughout the application period, so we encourage you to apply early to avoid disappointment.
Maz Murray (b. 1995 Basildon) is an artist working across film, performance and writing. They use satire, surrealism and melodrama to talk about queer and trans identity, class, and the complexities of public life. Their first institutional solo show Principal Boy was at Focal Point Gallery, 2024. They are currently working on a collaborative novel with Montez Press.
The programme will take place from Tuesday 5 – Friday 8 August 2025 from 10.30am-4pm daily at Whitechapel Gallery, E1 7QX – you must attend each day.
