Duchamp & Sons were formally known as the Young Curators, a name devised by staff in the Gallery, and intended as temporary. In the summer of 2010 the group worked with the artist Lady Lucy on a project titled The Naming Project, working with her to explore ideas around naming and identity and to generate ideas for a new group name – the result of which was Duchamp and Sons. Their name was launched at the public discussion event The Naming Ceremony at the Whitechapel Gallery in April 2011.
