Access Made Easy - Video

A video tour of the Whitechapel Gallery

Lift access

Our passenger lift gives step-free access to all floors of the gallery. All of our current exhibitions can be reached through using the lift. 4 people max capacity.

Visitor wheelchairs and folding seats

We have two wheelchairs currently available for visitors to borrow. You can reserve a wheelchair by calling, emailing access@whitechapelgallery.org or requesting it upon arrival at Information Desk.

Portable folding chairs are available from opposite the cloakroom.

Assistance dogs

Guide dogs, hearing and assistance dogs are welcome. Staff can provide a bowl of water on request. When bringing an assistance dog to an event, please call or email access@whitechapelgallery.org in advance to reserve a suitable seat.

Parking

Free parking for Blue Badge holders is available at the top of Osborn Street in the pay and display booths for an unlimited period. Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis.

Toilets and baby changing facilities

There is an accessible toilet and baby changing facility on the ground floor. On level -1 you can find women’s toilets, men’s toilets and an all gender cubicle.

Our toilet facilities have complimentary nappies and menstrual products.

Audio Description

Audio Description is recorded for artworks in all of our exhibitions. This is available through QR codes on artwork labels, or directly through our Soundcloud.

We’re unfortunately not able to provide audio described navigation around the gallery, but we are happy to arrange for a member of staff to support navigation if necessary. Please get in touch with us by phone or email access@whitechapelgallery.org to arrange this

Large Print

Exhibition interpretation and artwork labels are available in large print format. You can find a relevant version of this in each gallery space, as well as from the access wall in the foyer.

Subtitles and transcripts

When there are videos in an exhibition, we will always aim to have the videos captioned.

If this is not possible, transcripts will be prepared for the film content.

The transcripts will be available from the information desk, but if you would like a copy in advance, please contact the Information Desk in advance on 020 7522 7888 or email access@whitechapelgallery.org

Access events

Every season we run audio described and BSL-led tours of our main exhibition.  We also host a regular Relaxed Hour session. All of our access events are free but require booking.

For up to date dates and times, please check out our Events page. You can also email access@whitechapelgallery.org for more information.

Induction Loop

Unfortunately, we do not have a working induction loop throughout the gallery.

We do, however, have a portable induction loop that can be used throughout the gallery spaces and for events.

To book the induction loop or to get more information, please email access@whitechapelgallery.org

Hearing Fire Alert

D/deaf visitors can use our fire alert system to receive a text message when the fire alarm sounds. You can use this by texting ‘’wghfas’’ to 07860 035 999. To leave the system, text ‘‘STOP wghfas’’ to the same number.
