Special Event
Artist’s Talk and Exhibition Preview: Cecilia Vicuña

Join us for a special evening with Cecilia Vicuña – one of Latin America’s most internationally renowned artists, poets, and feminist activists.

Ahead of the major new exhibition Cecilia Vicuña: Living Threads, this is a rare opportunity to hear directly from the artist – reflecting on her long and deeply personal relationship with London, where she lived, studied and worked in the early 1970s.

Vicuña will discuss how her experiences in London deepened her artistic and political practices, and how questions of memory, cultural preservation, indigenous knowledge and resistance have continued to inform her work.

From 17.00-18.00, Vicuña will be in conversation with Whitechapel Gallery curators Leila Hasham (Director of Exhibitions) and Carolina Jozami (Associate Curator).

From 18.00-19.00, attendees will have an exclusive preview viewing of the Living Threads exhibition – Vicuña’s first major UK exhibition, spanning six decades of her interdisciplinary practice.

Refreshments will also be available.

This event accompanies Cecilia Vicuña: Living Threads at Whitechapel Gallery, which runs from 7 October 2026 to 14 February 2027.

Cecilia Vicuña: Living Threads has been principally and generously supported by The Colwinston Charitable Trust.
