CABARET KULTURA with V-A-C Live

15 – 17 September 2016, 8pm

Three evenings celebrating the vibrant and subversive potential of live cabaret performance.

CABARET KULTURA with V-A-C Live is a series of experimental events inspired by the avant-garde theatre of early-twentieth century Russia. Performances take place in Gallery 2, which is transformed by Russian artist Sergey Sapozhnikov’s unique stage design.

Performers include electronic musician Alexander Selivanov, theatre collective Engineering Theatre AKHE and artists Evgeny AntufievDusty LimitsAlexandra Galkina, Alevtina Kakhidze, Alexander Kislov and Sasha Pirogova.

Events are introduced with a work by singer Joanna Dudley, long-term collaborator of the artist William Kentridge. Conceived by the duo, and titled A Guided Tour of the Exhibition: For Soprano with Handbag, the work sits alongside the major Whitechapel Gallery exhibition William Kentridge: Thick Time (21 September 2016 – 15 January 2017).

9.45pm – Alevtina Kakhidze acts as a compère of art-world insider knowledge, whispering rumours and stories with the audience to create Feast in Shot Stories.

10pm – Alexandra Galkina performs as avatar-masked DJ Galqueena, exploring a hundred years of artists’ music through the lens of avant-garde pioneers shown on screen.

10pm – Alexandra Galkina performs as avatar-masked DJ Galqueena, exploring a hundred years of artists’ music through the lens of avant-garde pioneers shown on screen.
