Join Whitechapel Gallery’s youth collective Duchamp & Sons for a relaxed launch event for their latest project, a new film work developed in collaboration with artist Maz Murray.
Over the past five months members of the collective have worked alongside Maz Murray to explore different approaches to filmmaking, storytelling, and performance. This February half-term the film they have crafted together takes over Whitechapel Gallery’s Assembly Room space.
This event offers the chance to hear from collective members about their experiences and motivations behind the film in an informal Q+A session, as well as an opportunity to see the finished film and accompanying installation.
Duchamp & Sons is Whitechapel Gallery’s collective of young people from across East London who meet regularly at the gallery and collaborate on creative projects with artists. They experiment with art, share space for food and conversation, and create exhibitions, events, and new artworks as a collective.
Founded in 2010, the name Duchamp & Sons was chosen by the group as part of one of their first ever projects.
Current Duchamp & Sons members include: Aayushi, Aisha, Alimah, Amir, Anna, Ash, Camila, Charlotte, Eva, Evie, Faith, Farjana, Fatema, Harry, Isabella, Josiah, Khadija, Lara, Monie, Rifa, Riley, Safiyah, Sogol, Umayrah, Val.
Maz Murray is an artist working in film, performance, writing and installation. They had their first institutional solo show at Focal Point Gallery in 2024. His debut novel Jaw Filler, a collaboration with Charlie Markbreiter, is out December 2025 via Montez Press.
